My own take on the events of the athletically gifted and how I allow them to affect my own existence, with some random observations about being a husband, father, and a human thrown in for good measure.
Do you compare Manning running off the field at the Superbowl without shaking the hand of Brees to King James ignoring Orlando after losing a play-off series? I have a friend named Adam who now compares the two and insists that Labron was not acting like a bad sport. I believe the King acted like a punk while Manning acted with class. There is a huge difference in my mind between a playoff series and the championship game when all eyes are on the winners. My son is no longer allowed to wear James gear in my house! If my son ever did something like Lebron after a little league playoff game I would be pissed and ashamed.
ReplyDeleteI don't compare it to Lebron's not shaking the hands of the Magic. Manning sought out Brees and other members of the Saints later on - he said he left the field because he wanted the Saints to have their moments to celebrate, and I believe him. Lebron was clearly pissed off about losing the series and stormed off in a huff. It's not like Manning has been teammates with any of the Saints' players recently, whereas James was a teammate of Dwight Howard's at the 2008 Olympics. Given that connection, Lebron owed at least a token handshake to the Magic no matter how ticked off he was by the loss.
